This fire started just before 4PM on North 11th street. As
the pager went off smoke and flames were already billowing 50
feet in the air. But a quick response and attack yielded
containment of the fire to the north half of the duplex with
only water damage inside the south half of the structure.
The exposure to the North sustained damage to the siding.
Both Brainard and Bellwood were called in for mutual aid.
They both arrived quickly giving our crew a chance to rehab
while they took over the overhaul of the structure.
Firefighters from other communities that were at nearby
graduation parties also lended a hand with some of the jobs away
from the fire. Thanks to those who pitched in!
Here are some pictures.

after taking out a mailbox and spinning into the ditch.

A high speed chase led to a accident at centerville corner
involving two vehicles. Notice the intrusion into the
drivers seat. Side airbags allowed this accident to end
with minor injuries.

DCVFD
Training Officer/State Fire Marshall Investigator Mark Sloup (in
the black shirt facing away from the camera) spotted the suspect
Oldsmobile passing through Butler County and apprehended the
suspect shortly after the accident.

burn. Approx. 1800 tons of hay was lost in the fire.
Departments from Butler and Polk County included David City,

At around 6:30am Brainard called us in to assist with a fire in
the Klein Center. A faulty cord started the blaze that was
contained in short order by the Brainard Fire Dept. We
brought Ladder 51, 49, 42, the air cascade, and unit 26 to help
support the cause. After the fire was contained, many
hours were spent tearing down the ceiling and insulation to
extinguish hot spots. Here are a few pics from that chilly
2° morning.

8-2003
This 5 car accident kept the Brainard and David City VFD's busy
for a little while. Due to construction on HWY. 92, there
were 3 vehicles stopped and a road workers vehicle on the side
of the road when a 5th vehicle (tractor trailer) failed to
slow before plowing through the line up. Amazingly, no one
sustained any serious injuries in this accident!

A 4 alarm fire in Wahoo called on David City's Ladder 51 to
help contain a downtown fire. Here are some pictures from the scene.

6-8-02
Helgoth Barn Fire
As you can see from
the first picture, which is about a mile away,
the structure had a big head start on us before
we were dispatched. Brainard, Rising City, and
Ulysses were called to help with tankers and manpower.
The page went out at 8:30 and it was nearly 2 AM
before the trucks were clean and the hoses
were loaded back on the trucks.
