USFA KIDS PAGE HAS TONS OF GREAT INFO FOR KIDS, PARENTS, AND TEACHERS!

HERE ARE SOME FIRE PREVENTION TIPS AND IDEAS TO PRACTICE AND TALK ABOUT.

bulletDraw out a floor plan of your home and decide two escape routes out of every room!

bulletTalk about, and practice, ways to get out of peer pressure situations that involve starting fires.   Just say no, and walk away!

bulletKeep an eye out for anything that looks hot or smells like it is burning.  Many times, fires can be prevented by doing nothing more than using our senses!

bulletMake sure you install and maintain smoke detectors on every floor of your home.  You must also check them frequently!  Change your smoke detector batteries every time you change your clock!

bulletIf you are ever caught in a fire, remember to STAY LOW!  Smoke rises so the cooler and easier to breathe air is near the floor.

bulletKeep matches, lighters, and all flammable fluids locked up and well out of the reach of young hands.

bulletAnd remember Smokey the bear is watching!!!

bulletThousands of kids are hurt or killed every year in fires...following good fire prevention guidelines will keep that from happening in our community!

While the David City Volunteer Fire Department spends a lot of time training to put out fires, we also put great emphasis on the prevention of fires as well.  Every year during fire prevention week we go visit the elementary schools to emphasize the importance of fire prevention.   We also have many activities the day of the annual fire prevention open house at the fire station.  These are all in an effort to protect and teach the kids that fire isn't a game.  So if your children come home and want to plan escape routes and other fire prevention and survival techniques, take time with them, it may save all of your lives.
